take her to the doctors, shame on you for asking people to advise about your littls daughter when shes ill. I’m glad your not my mum. you should be done for neglect.
jeez, some parents just aint fit to be parents.
My daughter has had a dry cough for a few weeks now that is worse at night. to relieve her i’ve been giving her lemon and honey at bedtime, keeping a drink of water by her bed should she need it and propping her up in bed more, on two pillows if she doesn’t have them already. it seems to help.
it sounds like a dust mite allergy .a little honey in some warm water will ease her throat being as dry . try hoovering the mattress or give it a good airing .wash sheets in as hot water as possible as regular as you can .hope she feels better soon

Make sure your daughter does not have asthma first. Try in the mean time a vaporizer at night to moisten the air. Delsym contains dextromethorphan that can help alleviate the cough given at bedtime but the bottom line would be to find out if there are any physical problems first. If the cough gets really bad, take her into the bathroom and start the shower. Run it for at least 20 minutes to fog it up and have he breathe the moistened air. If unsuccessful, take her to the freezer and have her breathe cold air for about 5 minutes. These are quick fixes but dry air is what I understand to be the culprit often in nighttime coughing in little kids.
Sorry about the lack of medical facilities because the doctor would be the best person to speak to. Home remedies include having her drink a lot of fluids (water, juice, weak peppermint tea). She may have an allergy which is causing the nighttime couching. Sometimes her pillow can cause this. Check to see if it is dusty or if it contains feathers (goose down, for example). Encourage her to sleep on her side. Maybe she has mucous that is dripping down her throat and causing the cough. If at all possible, go to a clinic in
case it is something more serious and she requires antibiotics or other medication.

Message for the person named LICK IT, did you read that this person is in Congo, Central Africa? You obviously don’t know that there are millions of people in other countries who do not have adequate medical facilities or medical care. Try to learn more about other countries and try to be more sympathetic. There are people who often have to travel hundreds of miles to find a clinic and then have to wait for hours if not days to see one overworked, overwhelmed doctor. It’s not like America where people have everything at their fingertips and still whine and complain if they have to wait twenty minutes to get exceptional medical care. God bless America, but God bless all the unfortunate people in other lands.
It could be either an allegy or a respiratory problem. Either way, try a humidifier or better yet, a vaporizer. Sounds like something in the room where she sleeps may be an allergenic.
It might be dangerous (I don’t know) in your environment to leave a container with water on a source of heat if a humidifier is not available. Certain minty (mentholated) herbs (make sure they’re not poisonous) or Vick’s Vaporub might help if you place it in the water while it is heated, to let the vapors fill the room.
Another thing that might alleviate the symptoms is an old fashion help of heating the water to a vapor and (avoiding burns please) place the child’s head over it for a few minutes with a towel covering her head so she can capture and breathe in the medicinal vapors for a few minutes.
That alone could alleviate the symptoms, but you need to find out more precisely what’s causing this.
One clue that a cough worsens at night, is that its sign of an inflamation. “…Chicken broth helps to ‘thin’ existing mucous, and is a good example of the more nourishing foods that you should be giving to a child who has a cough or cold. If vegetarian, choose highly coloured vegetables that are rich in the beta-carotenes and bioflavonoids that help the body make vitamin A. This soothes the mucous membranes and enhances the immune-supporting activity of other nutrients such as vitamin C and zinc…”
Also, dairy causes phlegm & mucus in the respiratory system, so avoiding dairy might help too.
I found this info on a site which advises on natural remedies, vitamins, diet etc. it’s good for reference, if you type in any relevant word(s),it’ll give you a list of results, which are related to the search(eg cough) & there’ll be a section called kidzone which is specifically for kids; i find the Q&A at the end is very good).
My sister in law told my plain natural honey on a tea spoon is great just before bed as it lines the throat, you could also try it with some lemon in a warm drink just before bed x
good luck
Cough is caused by a number of ailments.
It can be treated by over the counter medicines
or home remedies. More information available

I am loathe to directly apply my knowledge of children’s cough in UK directly to Africa. IF this question were asked in UK, I would suggest that a one off cough in a well child lasting a week, was most likely to be viral, self limiting, and would be unaffected by any management.
Please, your daughter needs to see a doctor!. She is displaying a lot of the symptoms of asthma which is a deadly disease. When she is coughing during the night, the best remedy is to make a steam tent, that is boil a kettle and make a hood over her head so that she can inhale the steam. If this does not help she really needs to see a doctor
We live in Africa too. Assuming it’s not infection or asthma, we use Phenergan Expectorant to stop this kind of night cough which can be from mucous running down the throat and causing irritation at night. It works for us. We use 5 ml. given once a day before bed, 2-3 nights in a row when necessary, if you can get it where you are. Every so often when we can get to ‘civilisation’ we assemble a supply of remedies for the children that we might require and this might be a good idea for you to do so that you are prepared in the event of any unforeseen problems. If you need to know what to buy, just ask. Good luck.
A cough is the body’s response to inflammation or irritation in the throat, larynx, bronchial tubes or lungs. Some coughs are dry, while others are considered productive. Here are a few simple home remedies that will help to overcome cough. My 5 year old daughter has the same problem. I have tried many things from a vaporizor to a hot shower. I found that the only thing that really works is delsym, but this is not for asthmatic coughs only allergen induced and inflammatory coughs. its an over the counter medicine so try to find it.
good luck with everything.
